Sadly, the day was cold and rainy, and the mist spoiled our view from the Getty Museum. There were several special exhibits on, including a small one of Russian book art, a collection of photography of California, and one on an illuminated manuscript. Once again, our time budget was insufficient to make the most of the place, as we had tickets to the Getty Villa at 2pm.
Driving back up towards Malibu, we entered the Getty Villa. This incredible building is a replica of Pompeii (pre-volcano) and has a lot of interesting artifacts. I was not expecting to find so much of it so interesting, thinking it more of a Hamish-type place, but it was a really well done collection, with a lot of facts and information about every piece. There was a large collection of artifacts around the legend of Hercules, explaining the feats and how they were portrayed. Surrounding the villa were gardens and statues; again, replicas of ones from Pompeii.
